I've been wanting to see the movie Beyond the Lights since it was in theaters, it seemed like a really cool movie. Finally I sat down and watched the movie after I saw that it had hit Netflix a while ago, and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and not necessarily for the movie itself but for the underlying message, depression and suicide. Depression is a major illness that affects so many individuals, sometimes they are aware they are suffering from the illness and sometimes they don't until it's too late. Suicide seems to be growing at a rapid rate, so many people not aware of the fact that they are suffering from depression turn to suicide to stop all the pain they may be feeling in their lives. In the African American community, the take on mental illness is the worst. The show Empire touched on the seriousness of mental illness last season and how in the African American community we feel that mental illness is not something that affects us, that it is a "Caucasian disease." But just like so many other things in life, mental illness has no ethnicity, no color, and it's time to spread awareness of mental illness and how it effects all ethnicity.

Is Romance Dead?
Lately I have been seeing a lot of post on various social media sites about the struggles of dating, how some people's view points on what on considers a good date or not a good date is acceptable or unacceptable, which led to my question of "Is Romance Dead?"
My guy friend and I were having a discussion about what would be considered an appropriate date, and me being the extra creative person that I am, I felt that a movie date just wouldn't cut it. Movie dates in my mind are something you do once you're comfortable, there's no thought process behind it, there's nothing special in saying "Hey, tonight we're going to the movies."

What is Love?
Webster defines love as an intense feeling of deep affection, a person or thing that one loves, and to feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to (someone). The Bible in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 states it like this "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."

Do You Still Believe in Love?
Do you still believe in love?
I have never been the lovey dovey type, the girl that has had her wedding planned since the age of 3. Okay the age of 3 may be a little dramatic, but working in the wedding industry there are seriously some ladies that have been planning their "dream wedding" since they could utter the words I Love You! But hey, that's not me. I've had my fair share of heartbreak, and it seems like more heartbreak than love, but the only thing that keeps me from saying that I have given up on love is because the Bible states that God is love, and I will never give up on God because He would never give up on me. But to say that I had given up on the fairy tale ending is how I would put my take on love. My mother was always my life line, that one love that made the blow from another heartbreak seem less fatal. They say you can die from a broken heart, I just hope and pray that my demise is not due to a broken heart. But you know what's amazing, how you can have such negative experiences with relationships and love and yet still have hope in love. What's truly amazing is how an individual can come into your life unexpectedly and change your outlook on life.
